Biography

Introducing, HANGAR ZERO SIX!!

A relatively new player in the Phoenix Valley music scene. We are a classic rock band that doesn’t play the same recycled classic rock material as many other Valley bands. The mix is eclectic, and the selected songs range from the 60’s right into the present! We can cover a wide variety of material from Ronnie James Dio to Natalie Merchant, Audioslave to the Beatles!

The personnel makeup of the project has many years of extensive gigging, recording, etc. It’s the combined experience of the players that makes this band tight, dynamic, creative, and driving!

A brief bio on each member:

Mark Cummings – Guitars/Vocals

Mark started his career as a guitarist at the ripe age of 12 in suburban Detroit. Dazzled by the rich tapestry of rock and pop music at the end of the 60s and entering the progressive and hard rock 70s, and with Detroit being “Rock City”, it was destiny. Mark earned his way through college playing clubs and giving guitar lessons. After college, Mark played the Detroit club circuit with Pentath, then regionally (including Canada and northern Ohio) with Surge. This period included a short stint with Dave Gilbert of the Rockets and the Ted Nugent Band. After moving to Arizona in the mid-80s, Mark freelanced and did sessions with local musicians, including a few sessions with Bob Welch of Fleetwood Mac fame. In the early 90s Mark joined Din Ripper, a local hard rock favorite that gigged heavily for a few years.

Josie Fierro - Lead Vocals

Josie is a singer from Orange County, CA. She has 12 years of experience playing in rock, blues, and pop music. Before relocating to Arizona and becoming a founding member of Hangar Zero Six, Josie was lead vocalist for bands in Orange County. Venues where she has performed include The House of Blues, The Crest, the famous Whisky A-Go-Go, and other local venues in LA and Long Beach. Josie has also attended two Fantasy Rock Camp events in LA where she has performed with major artists such as Jerry Cantrell from Alice N Chains, the De Leo Brothers from Stone Temple Pilots, and Kim Thayil from Soundgarden.

Joey Van Winkle – Bass Guitar/Vocals

Joe (Joey) Van Winkle is an electric bass player from Northern New Jersey (NYC Metro), having moved to the West Valley in 2020. He has 54 years’ experience playing in rock, blues, and progressive rock projects. Well known, involved, and respected in the Northern and Central Jersey music scene, he is a fixture gigging, sitting in, or just enjoying an open mic. Some of the prestigious venues Joey has played include in NYC’s CBGBs, Bitter End, China Club, Kenny’s Castaways, etc. Some of the luminaries that he has had the pleasure of having gigged with/played with are Vince Martell (Vanilla Fudge, actually a good friend!), David Usokkinnen (The Hooters), Carmen Cosentino (Chubby Checker, Johnny Johnson, Shirley Reeves, Chuck Berry). Opened for many national touring acts including Coco Montoya and Poppa Chubby.

Lance Wolf – Percussion/Vocals

LA Wolf was born and raised in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, a suburb of Madison. Lance’s percussion education began when he was 11 years old. At this time, he started to cut his “musical” teeth playing in the school concert and marching bands. Lance’s initial band was called the Billy Joseph Band, a blues project. His musical horizon expanded greatly in 1984 when, two years removed from high school, his heavy metal band Predator, gained notoriety opening for such major national acts such as Black Oak Arkansas, The Pat Travers Band, Helix, Vandenberg, among others. In 1989, Lance moved to Arizona in the Valley of the Sun. Ever since, he has been a fixture in the Phoenix and Valley music scene.

As is evidenced by the preceding paragraphs, there is a wealth of talent that the band possesses. The band has its own sound system so if the venue is lacking, we are covered. We also have our own lighting.

So, in closing, if you wish to have a high energy act play your venue, please contact us to discuss your event/gig needs!

Thank You for Your Time!
